Haiti in Crisis 2020!!!!

Updated: 5 days ago

The March 2020 headlines are daunting: Coronavirus. Gangs. Kidnappings.

Shootings. Murders. Political Unrest. National Level 4 Security Warning for Haiti.

Yet, God is good. All the time.

In spite of the difficult challenges the country is battling we are seeing God at work in so many ways:

: We hosted a "Dental Day" in our medical clinic where dentists saw many patients

: Our Medical Team was able to serve 500 local children and provide testing and lab work

: 2,500 meals were provided to the kids we love and serve in 10 days

The reality of life in Haiti has been sad in many areas. In the capitol, Port-au-Prince, some of the homeless Haitians have moved into a large cemetery to find safety among the tombstones. People are fleeing gangs and local violence in any way possible.

Now the coronavirus has landed in Haiti. After positive test appeared the country shut it's border, banned most flights and closed ocean ports. They have closed schools, including ours. Food is immediately becoming scare. Clean water is hard to find.

As in the past, when school must close and we cannot feed children through our feeding programs and Kid's Clubs, we turn our efforts to Emergency Feeding. God has provided access to food through HCHO and we have distributed food to our children and their families and other locals in need of water. We are so grateful the Lord continues to provide and help us meet desperate needs in dark times.

When in Haiti, I've shared a message with our team on two occasions. The heart of the message is 'You are the light of the world'!

"You are the light of the World. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither so people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives bright light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16

The Haiti team is certainly living this out. They are giving light to everyone as they feed and provide clean water for their church people, our school kids and the community. They are providing hope in the darkness!

My hope is that American Christians will also stand boldly on these same truths and shine brightly. May we put our faith, hope and love into action! May we love and serve our community, churches, friends and neighbors in these uncertain times.

I have repeatedly seen our Haitian team, in a country of extreme poverty and dangers, live out the heart of God with radical generosity and share what little they have. They live out these verses so well......

"In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability." 2 Corinthians 8:2-3

I pray that we follow in their example living generously with our time, resources and love for others. Your light can shine brightly in your home, community, church family, work and friendships. You can also be the light for a child in Haiti by joining our Child Sponsorship program. To sponsor a child for $25/month please contact our Child Sponsorship Director, Josh Rusler at josh.rusler@gmail.com Or, to give to our general ministry needs or our Emergency Feeding Program, please contact me at srwilson8@hotmail.com. A gift of any amount will help someone in need.

We are so grateful that God provides peace through the storms and we are praying that He will give you great peace as you love those around you and live out the heart of our good, good, God.

May God Bless You,
